heat of the day bleaches the sky and the sea and the sand and the air

the turtle, theo-the-turtle to you, didn't care, theo all heat-free in his egyptian shell

his private theo-cracy where he hunkers crazy down deep within himself

when Theo's not within himself he burrows in the thicket without himself

so the snakes and whatever's not afraid of snakes

burrow into the old holes, they hunker down

A path leads to a boardwalk, and the path arcs

over volatile, dynamic portions of experienced dunes

guarding the beach

When you get to the arcing boardwalk,

the watery edge of the world cuts a curve out of the giant sky

slicing it wide open

and the sky slices back, with a little love-sass
